This is something that, while possible with traditional encyclopedias, is so much easier with Wikipedia as a resource that I feel confident in saying that this would have never been created if Wikipedia hadn’t existed. It’s a little slow at first, but stick with it, it is cool.

I apologize if this seems overly political for this blog, but I think Lessig gives plenty of food for thought about ways institutions can be corrupted. In this case he focuses on the US Congress, but the basic idea can apply to any institution.

One thing this video doesn’t emphasize: the cost of recycling electronics should be folded into the up front costs of the devices so that the market (i.e. you and me) can make effective choices based on the price of the electronics. In other words, if it costs more to recycle, the device will be more expensive when we buy it and not when we throw it away. If we don’t do this, the market will never be an effective part of the solution.
